Alan commenced his career as a mining engineer in Mount Isa in 1968. Since that time he has been involved in underground mining in Canada and Australia. Alan holds a First Class Metalliferous Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (WA and QLD).

Since 1979, he has been an independent consulting mining engineer. His work has included reserve assessment, pit design and scheduling, the preparation of feasibility studies, rehabilitation design, underground mine planning, scheduling and budgeting. Alan has also worked extensively on open pit mines, with a eight year consulting assignment with Griffin Coal preparing the medium and long term plans. In addition Alan assisted with planning assignments for BHP Iron Ore (Goldsworthy) Pty Ltd on the medium term schedules, the closure schedules and rehabilitation proposals for the Shay Gap, Sunrise Hill and Nimingarra series of open pits. Alan was also used by Hamersley Iron to critique their Brockman proposals. Alan’s has spent several periods of time advising legal teams on litigation and arbitration matters (Griffin Coal – SEC Litigation – mid 1980’s, Western Mining – Leighton Contractors 1997-2000 and Great Central Mines – Eltin Contractors 1998).

The companies for which Alan has completed consulting assignments have been both small exploration/development companies and some of the major mining companies. Included in his work have been gold and base metal mines, both open pit and underground; surface coal mining, mineral sand mining, iron ore open pit mining and waste dump rehabilitation design.
