Project Mining Engineer on three studies:
Principally preparing a spreadsheet scheduler to be able to assess the impact of multiple variables on the planning at a major open pit nickel mine (Mt Keith). Supervising geotechnical plus mine optimization and design aspects of a large tonnage (100M+) low grade nickel sulphide deposit feasibility study (Yakabindie). Reviewed overseas underground nickel mining operation.

Building a financial model to be used in assessing the companys iron ore project and for assisting with fund raising.
Tectonic Resources NL (2004 2005)
Running an optimiser on the geological models in preparation for pit designs, pit designs, underground designs as part of an assessment of a Cu-Au series of deposits.

Prepare conceptual mine plans and schedules for a small mineral sands deposit.

East Africa Gold Mines (Afrika Mashariki Gold Mines) (2000 2003)
Preparing underground scoping studies, during various stages of project development. Assisting with the scheduling, design and tendering of an open pit mine.
Mine design underground and open pit, mine planning, scheduling, preparation of documents for review by due diligence organizations for the sale to Placer Dome. Included a site visit to the open pit operation in western Tanzania.
Western Metals (Pillara & Kapok Lead Zinc Underground Mines) (2002)
Site review of scheduling system (Pillara). Prepare basic data and preliminary conceptual schedule (Kapok).
St Barbara Mines Ltd (1999 2002)
Assisting with preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports to management. Miscellaneous scheduling studies. Design of an underground mining operation. Detailed underground designs and tender preparation and assessment, miscellaneous studies to improve economics of the Paulsen Project.
BHP Iron Ore Ltd (Mt Whaleback). (2000 2001)
Review and assist with the design of waste dumps aimed at encapsulating the pyretic shale waste.
Mt Keith Nickel Mine (WMC Resources). (1997 - 2000)
Assisting with preparation of technical arguments associated with a multi (tens) of millions of dollars arbitration claim by a contract mining organisation.
Kapok East Project (Western Metals Limited) - (1999)
Prepare a study to examine different mining options for an extension to the Kapok mine (Underground Lead-Zinc Mine) on the Lennard Shelf.
Jundee Gold Operations (Great Central Mines Limited). (1998)
Working through associated consultants Wynstra Pty Ltd and Total Resource Management Pty Ltd to advise on a contract dispute with the mining contractor. Assisting the client to prepare new contract documents, both for the open pit and underground operations.
Blendevale Project (Western Metals-Acacia Resources JV). (1996 - 1997)
Mining Co-ordinator on the Blendevale Feasibility study team. Worked in Western Metals office with Western Metals staff to put together the Mining Component for the above study. Blendevale (now called Pillara) is an underground zinc-lead project in the Kimberley area of Western Australia. It is located about 60km from Western Metals Cadjebut operations.
Westralian Sands Limited. (1988 - 2002)(Now Iluka Minerals)
Alan was initially involved with the mineral sand mining industry early in his consulting career on a project for Jennings Mining at Eneabba in 1979; the more recent involvement from 1988 to-date has been with Westralian Sands limited. The work has ranged from reviewing resources to providing long term mine plans and schedules for the Yoganup North operation, and supervising another consulting mining engineer prepare similar schedules on an adjacent operation. Work in 1992 involved developing a mining method and sequence for an adjacent strand line to the Yoganup Extended Pit. More recently in 1993-95 work has been associated with preparing whole of mine life plans for satellite deposits. Within the last year been involved with feasibility studies into adjacent operations at Eneabba.
BHP Minerals - Cadjebut U/G Zinc Mine. (1994) &
Western Metals- Cadjebut U/G Zinc Mine. (1994-9)
Assist with a study into the causes of roofbolt corrosion failures, with the aim of trying to predict "suspect" areas requiring rebolting. Preparation of the pillar retreat mining schedule (balance of mine's life), using Surpac software and spreadsheets. Prepare schedules for short term and medium term purposes. Carry out miscellaneous projects and reviews. Assist with budget preparations. During the period January 1994 to June 1996 approximately 230 days were spent on site at Cadjebut.
Sally Malay Nickel NL & Gindalbie Gold NL (1995 1996)
Conducted a study to exploit the Salay Malay nickel deposit by underground mining methods.
